CAPS' Mission

Capital Area Peer Services, "CAPS", promotes dignity, safety, recovery and community. CAPS, a peer-run agency that serves adults in the capital region of New York state who are recovering from mental illnesses, uses the unique power of peer services to enhance recovery and self-empowerment. Our programs enhance the well-being of those we serve through increased community integration, systems advocacy, and problem solving skills in environments that foster self-determination.

CAPS' Platform of Values

The CAPS administration, staff and members of the Board of Directors agree that the following core recovery-focused values guide our decision-making.

  • All consumers must have a safe environment for their recovery work.
  • Success focuses on the person.
  • All consumers must make informed choices.
  • Peer organizations are the focal point for the partnership between the consumer, providers and the community at large.
  • Trust is the foundation of everything we do.
  • We celebrate cultural values and diversity.
  • The peer knowledge network drives peer organizations.
  • We support consumers in their community of choice.

CAPS' Vision

Our vision is that all consumers develop satisfying, self-directed and enriching lives, identifying and realizing their chosen goals in the community of their choice.
